The Security Service Technician is responsible for the software configuration, customer training, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electronic systems, including but not limited to Security/Access Control and Video Surveillance. The Security Service Technician is responsible for servicing the systems in the most efficient and effective manner to assure minimum down time and maximum performance. All service must meet the highest quality standards, while assuring a professional and safe working environment. The technician is responsible for communicating system performance to the customer.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serves existing accounts by analyzing work orders; planning daily travel schedule; investigating complaints; conducting tests; resolving problems.
  • Establishes service by studying system requirements; ordering and gathering components and parts; performing acceptance tests.
  • Maintains rapport with customers by examining complaints; identifying solutions; suggesting improved methods and techniques; recommending system improvements.
  • Keeps personal equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Documents service actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • Maintains customer confidence by keeping service information confidential.
  • Accomplishes operations and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Responds to customer's service-related issues promptly.
  • Perform final connection and configuration of equipment for new projects.
  • Responsible for handling on-call duties on a regular scheduled basis.
  • Trains and instructs the customer on the proper use of the equipment.
  • Responsible for reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Responsible for accurate tracking on time sheets, service/installation tickets and inventory items.
  • Full compliance with company's and customer's safety program.
  • Other duties as required or assigned by Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Technical experience in surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, and IP networking.
  • The candidate should understand the following Information Technology items and be able to independently diagnose and correct issues related to:
    • IP addressing of devices
    • The purpose of a subnet mask and how it relates to device IP addresses
    • The purpose of a gateway and its role in the network
    • The use of DCHP and DNS with respect to network equipment
    • Basic troubleshooting of Windows client and server operating systems
    • Use of ICMP for basic network troubleshooting
    • Understanding of VLAN's
  • A desire to further one’s career in ASIS, ISC, or other organizations is critical
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – some public speaking is required.
  • Responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Outlook, Visio
  • Product research skills including use of; internet, catalogs, manufacturer and distributor tech, webinars and seminars.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date.
  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
  • Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation.

Experience/Education:

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Required: Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Preferred: Advanced Technical School Training
  • 3 years related experience
